LEGAL ISSUE

Negligent security practices alleged to have allowed the gunman to bring weapons into Mandalay Bay undetected.

RESOLUTION

In 2020, MGM Resorts agreed to pay up to $800 million to settle claims with more than 4,400 victims and family members.

In the aftermath of the 2017 mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, thousands of victims and families pursued personal injury claims against MGM Resorts International, which owned the Mandalay Bay Hotel where the gunman carried out the attack. Plaintiffs alleged negligent security measures contributed to the scale of the tragedy. The litigation became one of the largest personal injury settlements in U.S. history.
